Aspiring Citizens has been designed to educate and motivate people towards growing world hunger and health disorders. It focuses on building self-sustainable communities with emphasis on trading, building and upgrading technology. Special focus has been given to the importance of proper nutrition and the components of a healthy diet. It comes installed with 4 default stories that is based on a village which includes various challenges involved in it’s development.

The game is playable on Windows and has been developed in Python/Pygame/PGU and can be downloaded from here

Aspiring citizens is developed with an aim to help children explore the community, learn to implement the things in a practical manner and realize the importance of food nutrition and more importantly through fun.

What makes Aspiring Citizens so special.

It’s various features include:

Create Storyboard:

Why to play same story again and again. Let’s create our own and have some more fun. The tool emphasis on creating stories based on various Health diseases. In most games the entire gameplay is precoded but now  we transfer this power to the Parent’s and Teachers to contribute towards creating such stories to teach their wards  through the storytelling combined with gaming and that is too in their own language. Various mini games on diseases like Dengue, Swine Flu have been inculcated.

Save and Load:

One can save the game anytime he likes and load it from the same state where it was left. So take a nap and play when you like.

Profile System: Independent profiles wherein children can choose their own Avatars and Mentor for the game, load their saved game, create their own stories and keep track of

how they are progressing.

User Interface: Interactive graphics to suit the target children of age 6-16 years and to take them  into the depth of the game have been emphasized. Moreover larger buttons and

soundtracks based on different scenarios have been also inculcated.

Others: This is not the end you can view the current objective of your task, turn on/off the music, you can choose your own avatar, switch from one story to another and that each and everything can be done in just one go.

If one estimates time spent on games by children that is more than 2000 hours of gameplay could those hours have been used in something more creative? Children need an outlet for their creative energy. Playing games is usually more engaging than reading stories or even watching TV as you are not actively involved in changing the outcome. You are only passively involved, so far gaming industries have used this to engage children in games.

Another thing that makes games very interesting is that you are made the superhero like preventing an alien attack or killing zombies. Audio and video are so vivid in games that you feel that you are the superhero, you are responsible and you decide the outcome. But when the game finishes, in real life there is a difference of context the tasks of game do not match with the tasks we have to face in real life.

This is where most commercial games fail, this game is unique in the sense that it allows educators to let them play the stories they create, with the characters they create so that they can learn interactively what the story was designed to teach by the teacher and enjoy the process.

We still believe that a lot more needs to be done to address the above problems, but this is one little step and will keep inspiring us to to continuously work towards reaching the goal.

Mission:

We believe that all the problems that we face today can be solved by team effort, which needs a collaborative platform as its base. Our project is both a classroom tool, and an outside classroom activity. Collaboration is as ubiquitous as the formal or informal learning environment permits. We are proposing a new kind of an educational solution, an “expanded school” which grows well beyond the walls of the classroom. And last but not least this collaboration ensures a dialogue among generations, nations and cultures. The connectivity will be every language, will be spoken in the Aspiring Citizens project.

Comprised of 8 mini-games or “missions”, the game takes young players from an initial crisis assessment through to delivery and distribution of food aid, with each sequential mission addressing a particular aspect of this challenging process.

Agriculture and harvesting– Agriculture is the source of consistent
income.
Community Trading – Trading is absolutely fundamental to any
civilization.

Who is Aspiring Citizens for?

Aspiring Citizens is designed for children aged 6-16 years. Each mission’s gameplay is unique in order to maximize the game’s appeal to a variety of ages and learning levels.
